Meet Julian Samuels.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Julian Samuels is an artist and educator from southern California working with photography and sound. A digital native born in Los Angeles to immigrants from Jamaica and Argentina, his work reflects vast interests across music, digital media, culture, and sociology. Stitching together his creative practice overall are threads of social inquiry, temporality, semiotics, and humor. “Currently, I’m interested in using the camera to explore the spaces between people and how we derive meaning from the world around us. It’s important to me to photograph the people and places near and dear to me, especially in a time when our cities, societies, and world are changing so rapidly and radically. WIth both image and sound, I hope my work articulates a bit about who I am, how I move through this world, and my dreams for the future.” Julian also spends his time obsessively digging for music online, playing guitar, cooking, gaming, reading, and sitting under a tree somewhere. He’s currently based in L.A. — one of a few places he calls home.
